From The Land: getting a new home for the chickens

We aren’t settled into our own property yet but that shouldn’t mean the chickens have to wait. Our first coop was kindly named MEGA COOP. It was hand built from scrap wood and had a huge run with endless supply of worms and bugs to eat. They were happy birds that also got to roam our fenced back yard.

Fast forward and we are in an area that has coyotes and different large birds, the ladies must now stay enclosed and safe. But we couldn’t put mega coop back up because it is too big and still wouldn’t allow them areas of new scratching.

chicken coop modification

So we bought a small coop that Daddy  O could modify with wheels. This will allow us to keep our hens safe and happy with new areas to grub on. The plus side to having hens out here other than fresh home-grown eggs? Natural tick exterminators! There are a ton out here.
