21 Weeks: The Boy is more than half way cooked

21 weeks down only 19 to go. The first 20 weeks seemed to fly by. Granted we had a ton of change going on around us. Moving, getting out of the army, setting up home in our trailer, possibly getting a house through a wounded warrior program and on and on. So it has been busy.

I hope the next 19 weeks go as smooth as the first. So far I have been given the giggles by The Boy and heart burn. Giggles came in the form of a few swift kicks that moved my hand. So close for Daddy O being able to feel them. The other pregnancy body change I have encounter is numbness. I get a numb patch on the outside thigh muscle of both legs if I lay flat on my back in bed. Sometimes I get it if I have my leg propped up on the couch at a funny angle. So far if I get up and walk around or change positions it goes away. I hope I am able to keep it going that way, it doesn’t hurt just doesn’t feel pleasant.

The Boy this week:

according to what to expect when you are expecting:

How big is your baby? Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long from head to rump. About the size of a large banana — and speaking of bananas, if you eat one this week, there’s a good chance your baby will get a taste, too. That’s because he swallows a bit of amniotic fluid each day (for nutrition, hydration, and to practice digesting), so he eats whatever’s on your menu — and gets to put those developing taste buds to good use. So go ahead and nosh on those nachos (or crunch those crudités): Your baby may develop a taste for them when he’s older.

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
